National Margarita Day is one of the most popular food holidays to date. Loved by many, Tequila lovers find creative ways to celebrate this day (which is Monday, February 22nd) this year. Founder Todd McCalla’s initial purpose for creating this holiday was to spread love for margaritas worldwide. However you decide to celebrate National Margarita Day, we have some recipes created by the Crave Local Test Kitchen Team.

Here are some fun twists on the traditional margarita cocktail!

It’s that time of year again, when in spite of the chill in the air, we start dreaming of sunny days and sipping margaritas poolside. Here are a few of our favorite margarita recipes: sweet to fruit, lemon cream to mango, and even blue!

Lemon Cream Margarita

Makes 2

  • 2 oz lemon juice

  • ½ cup simple syrup, chilled

  • 4 oz blanco tequila

  • 2 ounces limoncello cream liqueur, chilled

  • 2 lemon wedges

  • Cubed ice

Pour the lemon juice, simple syrup, tequila, and limoncello cream liqueur into a blender with ice. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses, serve immediately!

Sparkling Prosecco Margarita

Makes a full pitcher

  • 1 750-ml bottle Tussock Jumper Prosecco, chilled

  • 4 oz Cointreau

  • 12 oz freshly squeezed lime juice

  • 8 oz Tequila Blanco, or to taste

  • 4 oz simple syrup

  • 6 lime wheels for garnish

  • Coarse salt

Mix the lime juice, tequila, Cointreau and simple syrup in a pitcher. Stir if you prefer it on the rocks, pour into a blender with ice for frozen.

Pour the salt on a small plate. Moisten the rim of your glass with lime, and dip the glass in the salt.  Fill the glasses with ice (if rocks), then fill them 1/2 full with the tequila mixture. Top glasses with Prosecco, garnish with lime wheels, serve.

Summery Pineapple Margarita

Makes 4 cocktails

  • 6 oz fresh lime juice

  • 6 oz reposado tequila

  • 3 oz orange liqueur

  • 1.5 cups fresh pineapple juice

  • Fresh pineapple slices, for garnish

Combine the lime juice, tequila, orange liqueur, and pineapple juice, in a pitcher, pour half the mixture into a shaker with ice. Shake for 30 seconds, pour into glasses over ice. Garnish and serve.

Frozen Mango Margarita

Serves 4

  • 2 cups fresh mango, diced

  • 1 cup fresh orange juice

  • ½ cup fresh lime juice

  • 8 oz gold tequila

  • 3 oz orange liqueur

  • 4 lime wedges

  • 4 strawberries, sliced into fans

  • ice cubes

Add the diced mango, orange juice, lime juice, tequila and orange liqueur to a blender with ice, blend until smooth. Fill the glass with the pureed mixture, garnish with a strawberry slice and lime wedge.

Blue Lemonade Margarita

Makes 4 drinks

  • 1/3 cup fresh lemon juice

  • 8 oz blanco Tequila

  • 2 oz Triple Sec

  • 1 oz blue curacao

  • Coarse salt for rim

  • ice cubes, crushed in a plastic zip top bag

  • Lime wheels

Dip the rims of 4 glasses in the lemon juice and salt, and put the glasses in the frig. In a sealable container or pitcher, combine tequila, Triple Sec, blue curacao, lemon juice, and two cups crushed ice; seal the container, and shake hard until it is very cold and the ice is partially melted. Take the glasses out of the frig, fill with fresh ice. Pour in the mixture, and serve with a lime wheel.
